A solar panel on your car’s dashboard or on your roof can provide enough power for a few hours, but a car battery might only last several minutes.
And, even though solar panels produce a lot of energy, they’re not as efficient as batteries, which use a similar chemical reaction to convert the solar energy into usable electricity.
The only way to build solar cells that produce more energy is to build an array of solar cells, which means building a battery, a big battery, or both.
